What The Hay – What An Event!
Posted September 3, 2008
If you are in need of some good old fashioned chuckles, drive to Utica, MT Sunday, September 7, 2008. The annual What The Hay event takes place roadside between Hobson, Utica and Windham, MT.
Area ranchers build haybale cre”Hay”tions and use the words hay, bale or straw in their title. There are usually about 50 entries, some using square-corner bales, some using the big round bales.
Election years sometimes feature candidates in the bale entries. Others may use cartoon characters, country songs…whatever the bale builder chooses.
There is no admission fee for the event and when you begin the route you will receive a ballot to vote for People’s Choice. For more photos visit http://www.russell.visitmt.com/listings/14381.htm
The Utica Day Craft Fair will be held in Utica with unique crafts and yummy foods during What The Hay.
Saturday, September 6, 2008 is the Montana Chokecherry Festival in Lewistown, MT. This tart-tasting berry is mighty good when used in some local recipes. You may not have entered a “pit-spitting” contest before and this would be the time! There will be lots of chokecherry goodies, street vendors, a fun-run and the Charlie Russell Chew Choo will also be running. Contact the Lewistown Chamber of Commerce 406-535-5436 for details.
