As I look out my window today, the Ice Breaker Road Race in Great Falls could live up to it’s name. Snow is falling heavily and we are in a beautiful winter wonderland, April style! We have a week and a half before the Ice Breaker though, so we could have any type of weather by then.
Sunday, April 25th is the day for the big event with 5 mile, 3 mile and 1 mile races. An average of 4,000 runners typically register. While the race is competitive, you’ll also see many families registered and they are just making it a great social outing.
The Ice Breaker mascot is a penguin and he will be at the start of the race. Children in the 1 mile can also “race the penguin”.
Prize money goes to the top three racers in the 5 mile run. The Ice Breaker has been named one of the top 100 races in the United States by Runner’s World magazine.
All registered racers receive a long sleeved shirt and lunch following the race.
