A Unique Event in North Central Montana
Posted October 28, 2011
The Montana Bale Trail – What The Hay event happens every year the first Sunday after Labor Day.
I’m late showing photos for the 2011 event but they are still just as good!
The event was started as a joke between two ranchers and now there are over 50 decorated haybale entries that line the paved route between the rural towns of Hobson, Utica and Windham in central Montana. I’m not sure the exact length of the route but I’d guess it’s about 25 miles. You drive through beautiful ranchland and of course there’s a lot of hay grown in this area.
This photo is a spoof on “Belly Up To The Bar” and it has cleverly been changed to read Bale-Hay Up To The Bar.
In addition to the What The Hay bale decorating contest you’ll find craft sales, a hay maze, food vendors and of course the charming businesses in these small towns.
This colorful bale decoration tells viewers to Have A Smurf-Hay Day. I like this photo because you can see the huge round haybales in the background.
Keep watching the blog and I’ll share more photos of this fun and unique event.
