“Sweets & Swing at the Ozark Club”

The History Museum is delighted to host the Bud Nicholls Big Band that will play an array of exciting music at the Ozark Club on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Under the direction of Bud Nicholls, the 16+ member band will be featured at the museum’s upcoming Ozark event, Sweets & Swing. The band features up to five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as well as bass and drums. One of the instruments the Bud Nicholls Big Band will be playing at the event is the beautifully restored 1925 Chickering Grand Piano that belongs to the museum.

The heyday of the Big Bands was 1936-1946 and included big band leaders like Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. Bud’s musical background started with the influence of his father Harold. Harold was a natural musician who learned to play music “by ear.” He put together a songbook composed of his own arrangements of many of the classic swing tunes from the WWII era and a few songs for our Sweets & Swing event will be taken from Harold’s songbook. The band will perform on the museum’s stage with a large dance floor providing plenty of room for swing dancing, though all forms of dancing are encouraged!

General admission tickets for Sweets & Swing at the Ozark are $30 for members and $35 for non-members. A limited number of tables with reserved seats for six are available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at The History Museum, Kaufman’s Menswear or by calling 452-3462. The evening features a decadent array of delicious desserts included in the ticket price and range from a chocolate fountain with a variety of fruits and cookies to tiered cakes and gourmet desserts. Miss Linda’s School of Dance will offer special performances, there will be a special silent auction featuring additional gourmet desserts, and a cash bar.
