Art Weekend Fun

Posted March 18, 2010

Wow, last night was my first night of “Art Weekend in Great Falls”. OK, it was Wednesday and not the weekend, but Great Falls’ art frenzy has begun.

I attended the Footprints on the Trail show sponsored by the Western Heritage Artists at the Great Falls Holiday Inn. There is a lobby art show and they also had good old western tunes being played in the lobby by the Jeni Dodd Trio.

It never ceases to amaze me when I see all of the unique art being displayed for sale. Artists are juried in to the show and it is more than western or cowboy art. I tend to like pastoral scenics and florals and I saw a great variety of those, also some very nice bronzes. Most of the bronzes were of wildlife or western scenes. One artist used clay figurines attached to oil paintings. Another artist who does a more contemporary style of work (with amazing florals) used a high-gloss finish on huge paintings and also did smaller versions of his paintings on tiles.

There is no admission fee to this show, all of the artists’ rooms are open to the public, and it continues through Sunday, March 21.
