Event Details

The Get Your Kicks at 6 concert on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Choteau City Park band shell will feature the music of The Highsiders, a Choteau-based bluegrass trio.

The performance is free to the public and those planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Public restrooms are available just across Spring Creek on the east side of the City Park, and the Pavilion will accommodate the concert if the weather is bad.

Farmers market, food and beverage vendors will be at the family-friendly event.

Performers in the trio are Bryn Cunningham of Choteau on guitar, Todd Harwell of Helena on bass and Chris Freistadt of Choteau on mandolin. The Highsiders came about as the result of two Choteau-area ski bums — Cunningham and Freistadt — who got together for a little powder skiing and wound up discovering a shared love of all things bluegrass, particularly the music of Tony Rice, an influential acoustic guitar player, and David Grisman, a mandolinist who combined bluegrass, folk and jazz in a genre he called “Dawg music.” The addition of Harwell on the ol’ doghouse bass was the final piece of the puzzle, and the Highsiders were born.
