Get Your Kicks at 6 - Great Falls Jazz Band

The Get Your Kicks at 6 concert on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m. at the Choteau City Park band shell will feature the music of the Great Falls Jazz Band, playing from 6 to7:15 p.m., and the Choteau Community Band, playing from 7:30 to 8 p.m.

The performance is free to the public and those planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Public restrooms are available just across Spring Creek on the east side of the City Park, and the Pavilion will accommodate the concert if the weather is bad.

Farmers market, food and beverage vendors will also be at the family-friendly event.

The Great Falls Jazz Band, under the direction of John Gemberling, is part of the consortium of Great Falls ensembles playing under the umbrella of the nonprofit Great Falls Municipal Band. Band members live in and around Great Falls and include music educators and lay musicians.

The band includes 16 members: three trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, a guitar, a piano, a bass and drums, plus a vocalist and Gemberling as director.

The band will reprise its “Jazz on Broadway” show, which includes a mix of jazz standards that come from various shows from the 1920s to the 1940s and leans a bit into composer George Gershwin’s library.
