Virgelle, Montana’s Country Christmas

What a fun day today!

I drove from Great Falls to Virgelle, MT which is about 8 miles off US Hwy 87 between Loma and Big Sandy. It’s amazing that there were three cars ahead of me also taking the Virgelle turn. I followed them the entire 8 miles and we were all heading to the fun event called A Real Country Christmas at a Real Country Store.

Country store it is – the Virgelle Merc is filled with antiques, beautiful crafts and yummy-looking baked goods.

Homemade treats were available for all shoppers. The popcorn balls were phenomenal and my friend said the Tom & Jerry’s rated an A-plus.

The Virgelle Merc has the bulk of their inventory on the main floor but during this great Christmas sale there are also items upstairs in the bed & breakfast. The basement was filled with unique items – church pews, wooden chairs, beautifully detailed headboards, crocks, old license plates, posters and more.

After we had thoroughly gazed at everything on the three levels of the Merc, we headed down the boardwalk to the Bank building. It really was a bank at one time! The antique furniture and furnishings there were also beyond expectation. The bank teller cages are still in place and also the old vault. It was fun just walking around and looking!

Many days are spent decorating the buildings, inside and out, for this sale.

It’s fun to explore Central Montana’s small towns, see our breathtaking landscapes and…OK…do a little shopping too!
