Kids’ Fishing Day

Posted June 4, 2011

What a difference a day makes!

Yesterday I was at Wadsworth Pond for Bighorn’s demo day and the weather was less than stellar. But, take a look at the very next day that was set aside for a Kids’ Fishing Day.

Here we are at Wadsworth Pond again, just on the west edge of Great Falls. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks organized the event and it was free to kids.

This youngster was trying very hard to cast and catch one of those elusive fish. She was working at perfecting her technique and she was having a pretty good time too!

Fishing poles, hooks and lures were provided so kids just needed a ride to Wadsworth Pond. There were also complimentary beverages and snacks for the kids.

A sister and brother were side by side comparing notes on just how to catch a fish.

I didn’t get a total count of how many fishing poles and kids were at the event. The grassy parking area was just about full when I got there and I could also see another parking area with quite a few cars on the other side of the pond.

What a great way for kids to experience the outdoors and learn a recreational activity. MT FWP had volunteers and staff helping with casting lessons and also giving out information.

One of the big wall tents set up had some of the fish displays I’ve seen before at Giant Springs near the fish hatchery so kids (and parents) could learn the different species.

All in all, a fabulous day for both kids and adults.
