Jay Contway Art Show

Posted March 22, 2010

I visited another art show titled Jay Contway and Friends this past weekend. Held at Montana Expo Park in Great Falls, this show had bronzes by Contway (huge detailed bronzes), woodcarvings, metal sculptures, silversmithing, leather work, paintings and more.

I took photos of some of the more unusual offerings. A handmade saddle was so detailed with leather tooling, I wouldn’t want to use it for horseback riding.

I looked at the woodcarvings from several different angles and still could not figure out how an artist would begin with a piece of wood and end with such a beautiful product. Obviously, I’m not an artist!

I didn’t get to spend as much time at this show as I had hoped so next year I’m going to start one of my art days with it.

Most of the artists were at the show in their displays and they were eager to show their art and tell how it was made. Sometimes that is as interesting as viewing their art.
