Cruisin’ The Drag Car Show
Posted May 8, 2011
The second Sunday in May is always Cruisin’ The Drag, a car show in downtown Great Falls, MT.
The city closes off Central Avenue from 9th Street down to the Civic Center (9 blocks) and cars and motorcycles line both sides of the streets. People wander down the middle of the street and from side to side checking out these beautiful cars.
I can only imagine the amount of money invested in restoring, painting and jazzing up these vehicles! As a result, we always hope for good weather so our car collectors will bring their vehicles out.
Saturday was one of those days we talk about – it was raining pretty steady when I reached out to get the newspaper at 8am. By 9:30 that morning the sun came out and it was a great spring day. We had sprinkles off and on throughout the day but not enough to drive the car show crowds away.
These photos will give you two views of Central Avenue, one looking east, one looking west. I was really amazed at the amount of people that turned out to look at the cars. I was more amazed at the car collectors/restorers who traveled long distances to show their cars.
There were prizes for different types of restoration. Food vendors also turned out to make the event more fun.
It was a great day – couples, families, young people, older people all strolled along Central Avenue and enjoyed this free event. Good times, Great Falls!
