About Folklore Coffee

Nestled in small-town Montana on the Rocky Mountain front, Folklore Coffee was dreamed into existence when founders Andy and Anna were living overseas on isolated islands off of the east coast of Africa.

Andy's (nerdy) coffee obsession and Anna's love of baking both healthy and unhealthy treats alike, along with their hope to see community growth in rural Conrad, Montana, culminated into Folklore Coffee. Andy attended the American Barista & Coffee School in Portland and the rest, as they say, is history.

"Folklore" evokes many things--storytelling over a good cup of coffee, hanging with a group of friends and doing life, the elegance and simplicity of tasty drinks beautifully and skillfully done. It is about the personal and communal nature of humans, and coffee has been a big part of that for centuries.

But really, coffee starts with...goats. It is all just legend, folklore, but word has it that coffee was first discovered when an Abyssinian (Ethiopian) goatherd named Kaldi witnessed his goats acting, well, how we all act when we've had a lot of coffee.

Coffee's story goes from goats to Turkish monks to soldiers to grandpas at the diner to modern-day hipsters with big square glasses.

And while coffee is our first love, we have a big torch for homemade. Homemade yogurt, bread, granola, sauces, cinnamon rolls, gluten-free almond scones...We love the simple art of feeding ourselves and others well. And if you don't love coffee as we do, settle in with a friend over a cup of loose-leaf tea or a smoothie made of 100% fruit or vegetables.

We truly hope to see you.
