Many buttes stud the prairie land west of Great Falls and one of the best is the Nature Conservancy's Crown Butte Preserve between Simms and Cascade. Crown Butte features fascinating geology and a rich plains ecosystem abundant in native plants and animals undisturbed except for the occasional hiker.
