America The Beautiful – Russell Country’s Version

Posted August 7, 2008

On a recent trip to Chester, MT I realized we are in the midst of harvest in northcentral Montana. Just like the song, those amber waves of grain covered acres and acres of fields. Harvest crews were working diligently, carrying on a way of life in the breadbasket of Montana. I’ve often thought it would be great to label our crops so visitors (and locals too) would know the types of grain growing.

This area of Montana is frequently referred to as the Golden Triangle because so much wheat is grown here. I stopped alongside MT Hwy 223 between Chester and Fort Benton and was able to get several great photos of the harvest crew.+

As I drove through the small community of Chester in search of the Liberty County Museum and Liberty Village Art Center, I happened upon a slice of small town charm. This young entrepreneur not only had some marketing skills but also some great thirst-quenching lemonade!

If you are traveling along US Hwy 2 you’ll drive right through Chester. I’d recommend planning some time for a stop. Staff and volunteers at the Liberty County Museum spent many weeks painting and changing displays for this summer’s opening. And, if you get to the Liberty Village Art Center, be sure to visit the gift store to see an amazing selection of work by local artists and crafters.
