Party In The Pasture

This past weekend was the Red Ants Pants Music Festival, a multi day fest held on a ranch just a couple miles out of White Sulphur Springs, Montana. Yes, it is held in a cow pasture! Lots of phrases come to mind when I think about the festival – good music and attendees of all ages enjoying it, good brews and awesome foods, farm and ranch skills being demonstrated, and about the best scenic backdrop … Read more

A Tip of the Hat to Charlie Russell

In celebration of the National Day of the Cowboy, the Charles M. Russell Museum in Great Falls held an event last weekend called Saddles and Spurs. The museum complex covers one full city block in the northside residential area of Great Falls and includes the galleries, Charlie’s log studio (including tipi poles) and the house Charlie and Nancy lived in. A sculpture garden is dispersed throughout the east side of the complex. Even with all … Read more

Learning How to Harvest Sweetgrass

I met the owner of Montana Sweetgrass Etc. a couple of years ago at the Made in Montana Marketplace. Her booth at the marketplace was so pretty and the product so unique – I decided I wanted to learn more about it. Yes, it has taken me two years to get this done! The only place I had ever seen sweetgrass growing was near Cut Bank, MT and that was many years ago. I wouldn’t have known … Read more

Paris Gibson, Founder of Great Falls

A lunch break the other day in Gibson Park, one of Great Falls’ most centrally located parks, had me getting my camera out for some photos. A local garden club and the Great Falls Park & Recreation Department make sure the park looks great for all of the events there. On Wednesday evenings in the summer there are free city band concerts. Many outdoor weddings take place in the park and families will host gatherings … Read more

Shelby bills itself as the “Crossroads” – Interstate 15 runs north and south and US Hwy 2 travels east-west and both heavily traveled routes intersect here. They also have Amtrak passenger rail service which pretty much parallels Hwy 2. We met at the new meeting room at Comfort Inn & Suites. When we left there we only … Read more

HOG Rally in Great Falls

Wow – what a fun weekend for motorcycle afficionados! I don’t own a bike but it sure was fun looking at the multitude as they came to Great Falls for the 2013 Montana State Harley Rally. The Big Sky Harley dealership, 4258 10th Avenue South, Great Falls was the host dealership for the rally. Holiday Inn Great Falls was host hotel and KOA served as another gathering spot for bikers. Local event organizers planned a … Read more

Educational And Fun at Lewis & Clark Festival in Great Falls

The 24th Annual Lewis & Clark Festival was held this past weekend on the banks of the Missouri River in Great Falls. Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and the Corps of Discovery traveled upriver on the Missouri over 200 years ago, no small task, and when they were near where the festival was held many obstacles came their way. First was a series of waterfalls – oh yeah, a bit tricky whether you are going up or … Read more
