Start behind the Yogo Inn where the trail system crosses Main Street and ride south, paralleling the Spring Creek flood control channel and then around the back of Frank Day Park. Continue south crossing Ash Street and then you’ll enter the Brewery Flats Recreation Area. Follow Big Spring Creek as it meanders through a natural area abundant with wildlife.
Head back towards town, bear left as you approach Frank Day Park and continue northwest. You’ll be able to explore the trails that circle the Frog Ponds. If you continue past the Frog Ponds, you can access the trail along Airport Road and you may be able to see the bison family that lives behind the Charles M. Russell Wildlife Refuge Headquarters Building. You can also stop at the Headquarters Building and get information on the Refuge and see the progress on the interpretive nature trail they are building around the perimeter of their site.
If you are interested in distance, head back to where the main trail crosses Main Street by the Junior High and continue northwest along the truck bypass to where the trail intersects Hwy 87 west of town. Future plans include a link back to town along the highway in the next couple of years, but for now it will be best to just do an out and back once you hit the highway.
