Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals Held in Great Falls

The 34th Annual Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals wrapped up this afternoon after four performances of riding, roping and wrangling.

Montana Expo Park in Great Falls was the site of the action as it kicked off Friday night. Top cowboys (even Jesse Kruse, a world champion) drove big rigs in to town loaded with horses, saddles and tack necessary for the show.

Sell-out crowds (capacity is 4,500 people) packed the Four Seasons Arena Friday and Saturday nights to watch saddle bronc and bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping and barrel racing. A great turnout, especially when you consider that a winter storm and very cold weather hit Great Falls Thursday before the action started.

Saturday morning featured a new event geared to families and working ranches. It was a “ranch rodeo” with events showcasing tasks necessary on a working ranch. Rodeo organizers announced that they plan to continue this added event next year.

The 2014 and 2015 Montana Pro Rodeo Finals will continue to be held in Great Falls bringing a great group of people to town on what would ordinarily be a quiet winter weekend.

I visited with the 2012 Miss Rodeo Montana as she was unloading her horse for a farewell ride Sunday afternoon. She had a great smile and, even though it was cold, she took time to chat.

Mariah Rys-Sikora spent 2012 visiting rodeos all over Montana and even the rest of the country. In addition to rodeos, she also attended a lot of community events – one busy gal.

Besides having strong horsemanship skills, Miss Rodeo Montana needs to know the culture of rodeo and keep current on topics affecting the sport. She becomes an ambassdor for rodeo. She also competes in the Miss Rodeo America Pageant during the National Finals Rodeo.

Alyson Grinestaff was selected as 2013 Miss Rodeo Montana  – get ready for a busy year Alyson!

I’m already looking forward to 2014 Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals next January.
