Last Saturday was Silver Crest Trails Association‘s annual SnowFest at the Kings Hill Winter Recreation Area south of Neihart, Montana. And, what a fun day it was!
I was basically trying to squeeze in several activities Saturday – early morning bird count, an hour’s drive to the Kings Hill Winter Recreation Area, then a Broadway show that night.
It wasn’t until I was home and looking at my photos of the X-C ski day that I realized just how much fun people were having. Smiles upon smiles…happy people enjoying our winter wonderland!
The Silver Crest Trails Association recently acquired a new groomer, thanks to some efficient grant writing. It’s a beauty and will help keep the area in great condition.
Now, more about this fun event. Chris Leatham from Bighorn Outdoors was at the edge of the parking area in his very bright (and beautiful) orange jacket. He and a few others were analyzing X-C skis.
Just beyond were several volunteers getting ready to lead first-time X-C skiers, snow shoers and a couple of people who wanted to try X-C skating on the trails in the area.
A registration table, food and beverages, and a great vocalist/guitar player were all positioned at the Kings Hill Winter Recreation area. Someone had done some amazing organizing to pull this off!
Skies were blue and photo-worthy, the sun was shining and the snow seemed to be in great condition for X-C skiing. The only downside was that I could only stay a couple of hours!
All in all, Snow Fest was a great time and a good way to expose what Central Montana’s backyard is like for winter activities!
