Golfing With Mel

We are on a golf swing through north central Montana. After hitting the links at Signal Point in Fort Benton the other day, we chose Anaconda Hills Golf Course in Great Falls for our next outing. It was morning, not early, but still kind of chilly. We wanted to get the scoop on this course so staff there recommended Mel. I think everyone was curious about how old Mel is and he proudly told us … Read more

Afternoon At Signal Point Golf Course

Wow, what a beautiful day today and I was able to spend the afternoon showing off Signal Point Golf Course at Fort Benton, MT. We didn’t get there until about 3pm, then by time we rearranged luggage, got golf clubs organized and sunscreen applied, it was nearly 4pm by time our group of four teed off. It was a warm day with lots and lots of bright sun. I have been to Signal Point before but my three … Read more

Ready for the Montana Bale Trail

It was time to paint Russell Country’s annual entry in the Montana Bale Trail – What The Hay contest this past Thursday. This annual quirky festival happens the first Sunday after Labor Day each year. Every year I say – I’m going to come up with something clever! Every year we do the same entry – 26 bales stacked and painted with Welcome to Russell Country! I suppose there is something to be said for … Read more

They’ve done a great job of landscaping in addition to planting one fine garden so it really adds ambience to the residential area. It may not be considered a tourist attraction but I feel visitors value the community spirit and the colorful landscape. It truly is a community effort, one that took a little lobbying to get … Read more

Atlatl Throwing at First Peoples Buffalo Jump

Last weekend was a unique event at First People’s Buffalo Jump State Park near Ulm (11 miles west of Great Falls on I-15, then 3.5 miles to the park). The atlatl competition (say it fast and pronounce all the letters) was a sight to see. Some folks refer to the sport as spear throwing. It was an ancient method of hunting that dates back to over 8,000 years ago. Now, I have thrown an atlatl. … Read more

Re-Do at Comfort Inn & Suites

I had a chance to tour the recently upgraded Comfort Inn & Suites the other day. The hotel is located in The Marketplace in west Great Falls, an easy exit if you are coming to Great Falls on I-15. You take exit 0 and then go a few blocks. It’s a quiet area, away from the main route feeding The Marketplace, but close to area stores and a theater. The Comfort Inn & Suites has … Read more
