A Museum Within A Museum

A trip to the Ursuline Centre in Great Falls, MT is an architectural treat, a feast for antique-lovers and when you see their “museum” you’ll want to spend much more time there. Many of the Ursuline Sisters taught at St. Peters Mission near Cascade, MT and were given Native American gifts. The red elk tooth dress hangs proudly in one corner of the room housing the museum. Just think about how many elk it would have taken … Read more

The Amazing Ursuline Centre

The other day I visited the Ursuline Centre located at 2300 Central Avenue in Great Falls. The area is primarily residential with a school on the other end of the block. It was a cold December day so I didn’t shoot any outside photos (maybe next summer!). The outside of the building is very impressive though. Gargoyles peer down from near the top of the building, a point frequently missed by many. Our tour started on the second … Read more

It’s A Holly Jolly Trolley Ride

The other evening I decided to check out the Christmas luminaria tours done by Tour de Great Falls in their heated trolley. I wasn’t as organized as I should have been and I went to the wrong place to catch the 5:30 pm trolley. Note to self, read things a little closer! I called Carol Place who operates the trolley and she said there would be an 8pm luminaria tour later that night and I would … Read more

Parade and Stroll in Great Falls

It’s just more fun having this event with lots of snow. Downtown Great Falls coordinates the parade and stroll. … Read more

One Big Christmas Tree

I had the honor of donating a Colorado Blue Spruce from my front yard to the city of Great Falls this year. Each year a large evergreen is put in front of Great Falls’ Civic Center (at the lower end of Central Avenue) and decorated with lights. The spruce was planted in my yard in 1980 and it was 5 feet tall when a company called Trans-A-Tree planted it. With lots of water, fertilizer and care, … Read more

25th Parade Of Lights In Chinook

This past Friday marked the 25th Annual Parade of Lights in Chinook, Montana. I can still remember the first Parade of Lights I attended in Chinook. Both of my parents were in the live nativity scene and the unique floats totally mesmerized me. When you think about it, most farmers and ranchers in or near the rural community of Chinook have portable generators. And, also flatbed trailers for hauling hay. Those two things are the basis … Read more
