Kids’ Fishing Day

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday I was at Wadsworth Pond for Bighorn’s demo day and the weather was less than stellar. But, take a look at the very next day that was set aside for a Kids’ Fishing Day. Here we are at Wadsworth Pond again, just on the west edge of Great Falls. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks organized the event and it was free to kids. This youngster was trying very … Read more

Demo Day With Bighorn Wilderness

It’s no secret we’ve been having rain, and lots of it. It’s also pretty rare to ever hear a Montanan complain about moisture! Today was the day that locally owned Bighorn Wilderness was sponsoring an equipment demo day on Wadsworth Pond west of Great Falls. Well, it might have been a little bit blustery but Bighorn owner Chris Leatham had his usual smile and positive disposition. When I drove in to the Wadsworth Pond area it was … Read more

A Good-Sized Walleye

We’ve had so much rain and high water so fishing hasn’t been at it’s best. But, this walleye could be out there waiting for you! The walleye tournament at Fresno Reservoir west of Havre has already been held. The next tournament on the schedule is June 11-12 at Tiber (Lake Elwell) close to Chester and Shelby. I’m hoping for good weather so I can get there and shoot some photos. On May 22nd one angler from Great Falls … Read more

Conrad’s Theater is Beautiful

Conrad’s Orpheum Theater is such a treat. It took several years to complete the restoration work but it was worth the wait. The Celtic concert I attended last Monday night at the theater was titled “Men of Worth”, (not sure what that’s about!). After our wonderful Irish dinner at Joe’s Steakhouse, I had a few extra minutes so I scurried in and took some photos inside the theater of one of the performers tuning instruments. They … Read more

Irish Dinner In Conrad

Yes, Conrad, Montana hosted an absolutely wonderful traditional Irish dinner last night. With wheels pointed north on I-15 for the easy 60 mile jaunt, six of us headed for an evening of great food and even greater Celtic music. We ate at Joe’s Family Steakhouse on the corner of Main and 4th Street, right by the town’s only stoplight. Conrad local, Jane Holzer, had coordinated the menu with the restaurant and we were not disappointed. The … Read more

Ice Breaker Road Race

I could probably say that I’m one of the hearty runners in this photo taken last Sunday at Great Falls’ annual Ice Breaker Road Race. Full disclosure…I did not run in the Ice Breaker and, I didn’t even walk it! I’m not much of a runner but I thoroughly enjoy walking so that would have been the category for me if I had entered. The weather was definitely in theme with the race name (Ice … Read more

It Was A Great Ride

As we left the pack trip riders from 7 Lazy P’s upper ranch and turned back, I felt sad. They would have great memories of the Bob Marshall Wilderness and they would get to see the Chinese Wall. I would have memories of a very fun ride and amazing scenery, although it was just for one day. After a very relaxing late lunch, Laura, the wrangler who would lead us back, said we had better get started. She kept turning back to look … Read more

Watching The Packstring

All of the guests at 7 Lazy P were excited about their 10 day pack trip into the Bob Marshall Wilderness and I was no exception. I guess the exception was that I only would ride for one day. The group would ride to the south part of the frequently photographed Chinese Wall in the Bob Marshall and then back. The mule packstring was behind our group and we wanted to get some photos of it. We were … Read more

Riding With A Packstring

Our ride with the packstring and guests going in to the Bob Marshall Wilderness with 7 Lazy P guest ranch was about to begin. Even the experienced riders were sharing a few insecurities – after all, 10 days is a long time. We received a few instructions after breakfast and, I must digress…we also sang happy birthday to Chuck Blixrud who owns the ranch. What a guy. Happy birthday Chuck and many more! Getting all … Read more

Fiddlin’ Around

Not only could Jayce pack a mule, we found out that he played the fiddle. I’m sure he was pretty tired after packing gear but he agreed to play a few songs for us when we pointed out that we would not hear his music around the campfire when the other guests would. Yup, a little guilt trip there! We gathered at the main lodge at 7 Lazy P’s upper ranch. Jayce finished his packing … Read more
